Pastor Schlueter

Pastor Richard Schlueter

Pastor Schlueter is the son of Omar and Hildegard Schlueter, the youngest of four children, and was raised in rural Concordia, Missouri where he attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church and received infant baptism on January 29, 1961. His education began at St. Paul Lutheran School in Concordia where he attended kindergarten through eight-grade. He was confirmed in his Christian faith at St. Matthew Lutheran on March 23, 1975. He graduated from Concordia High School in 1979, received an Associate of Science degree from State Fair Community College in Sedalia, and Bachelor of Science from Central Missouri State University.

While employed for a local farmer’s cooperative he met Susan (Sue) Desselman of St. Louis, who was teaching school in Concordia. They were married on July 23, 1988 at St. Matthew and were blessed with a daughter, Mikaela Elise, in 2000. In 1989, they relocated to Kirksville where Richard began his career with the Missouri Department of Agriculture as a grain regulatory auditor.

Richard’s service to Faith Lutheran includes many years as congregation treasurer, and licensing in 2004 by the Missouri District Lutheran Church as a Deacon. In this capacity he was actively involved in leading worship services at Faith (Kirksville) and Peace (Milan). While serving as Deacon he completed eight pre-seminary internet based courses through the Leadership Advancement Program and the Mission Training Center. During the summer of 2008 he successfully completed seminary entry-level test and was accepted into the first cohort of the Specific Ministry Program (SMP) offered through Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis. In 2010, he completed his vicarage requirements at Faith Lutheran.

Currently, Richard is continuing with completion of his remaining SMP coursework and working with Pastor Lukefahr in ministry to Faith and Peace, while continuing to work full-time for the Department of Agriculture.
